Chinese Cinderella


A novel written by Adeline Yen Mah which describes her experience growing up in China during the Second World War. Adeline was an unwanted daughter who is abused by her stepmother. Most of her family blame her for the death of her mother. Adeline's mother died shortly after giving birth to her. Her family ignores her and also abuses Adeline both physically and mentally. Adeline feels disappointed but she is a fighter.

Her father and stepmother send her to boarding school in Tianjin. Adeline becomes very lonely and is rescued by her stepmother's sister. Adeline moves to England and starts a new life.

This book will be in the reading room soon. It is appropriate for upper secondary students.
