A Walk to Remember

A romance novel set in the 1950s in a town called Beaufort in North Carolina, USA. It is the story of two teenagers who fall in love with each other despite the huge difference of personality. The story explores the themes of love, faith and spirituality.

The main characters are Jamie Sullivan, Hegbert Sullivan and Landon Carter.

Jamie is Hegbert's daughter who has leukaemia and is dying. She is also a very spiritual person and carries a bible everywhere she goes. She is a goody two shoes and is very unpopular at school.

Hegbert is a church minister and a widower. His wife died after she gave birth to Jamie.

Landon is the son of a rich family and a typical American teen who is seen as someone "aimless" and is disliked by Hegbert. He is actually a good person but spends most of his time hanging out with his friends.

Landon gets involved in a Christmas play as the lead role beside Jamie. After spending time with the minister's daughter, Landon- the most popular boy in school, falls in love with Jamie.

Will their relationship last?

Suitable for upper secondary students.
